Cotati is a growing community that is a local hub for events, festivals, and entertainment. This small incorporated city features a distinctive hexagonal downtown district centered on La Plaza Park. This pretty park is surrounded by diverse of shopping, dining, and drinks. La Plaza Park also hosts an eclectic array of festivals and community events, ranging from a regular farmers’ market to the annual Cotati Accordion Festival.

Local Lifestyle
Cotati is home to around 7,500 residents. This small city has a close-knit feel with many community events fostering a strong sense of togetherness and belonging. The businesses on the streets close to La Plaza Park in Downtown Cotati include a mix of trendy modern pubs and restaurants and long-serving pillars such as Oliver’s Market. There is also plenty to do here for families including Little League baseball.

La Plaza Park is the heart of Downtown Cotati. This relaxing green space anchors one of only two hexagonal downtown districts in the entire United States. The streets around La Plaza Park feature lots of restaurants, coffee shops, independent retailers, and pubs.
Oliver’s Market is a staple of the community which prides itself on the power of local. This gourmet grocery store first opened in Downtown Cotati in 1988. Inside, you’ll discover fresh local produce, natural foods, delicious baked goods, tasty deli items, high-quality meat and seafood counters, specialty cheeses, a large gifts department, and a fine selection of wines, beers, and spirits.
Things to Do
Many homes in Cotati back onto the creek with walking trails leading to a variety of parks, several of which offer
off-leash areas for dogs. Cotati is very big on entertainment, events, and festivals. La Plaza Park is the center of many of these local celebrations. September’s
Cotati Accordion Festival brings four stages of talented accordion players to La Plaza Park. The diverse performers here play everything from polka to dance music.
On Wednesday afternoons between June and September,
Cotati Community Farmers’ Market fills La Plaza Park with vendors selling farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, handicrafts, and specialty foodstuffs.
Movies in the Park is another recurring event that brings outdoor screenings of family-friendly movies to La Plaza Park throughout the summer.
There are also special seasonal celebrations including
Halloween in Cotati with live entertainers and performances, costume contests for kids and adults, carnival games, and free candy.
The Cotati Tree Lighting Ceremony in December offers fun activities for kids including entertainment, storytime, and a visit from Santa. There’s also a candlelight concert and free hot cocoa, coffee, and cookies. The Little League baseball season begins in spring with
the Rancho Cotati Little League Opening Day Parade. On Thursday nights, Cotati becomes college student central as students from Sonoma State University and other young locals flood down Cotati in what is known as
the Cotati Crawl.
